The current situation has, unsurprisingly, led to a huge number of enquiries from our clients to clarify what cover they might have to respond to the economic impact that has already been felt by many businesses, and the potential government lockdown that the nation may shortly have to deal with. The Association of British Insurers has now provided this Q&A which will answer many questions: https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-issues/topics-and-issues/coronavirus-qa/

In short, very, very few businesses will have any cover in respect of the above scenarios – the insurance industry simply isn’t set up to deal with such issues. If you have a specific instance of coronavirus/Covid-19 at your premises, you notify the relevant authorities, and they instruct you to close down then you may have cover, depending on your insurer’s policy wording. Even in this instance, however, cover will be for a limited amount.

If you have Group Business Travel Insurance in place cover should respond to all instances of cancellation/curtailment of any trips arising from Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice against travelling.

We are obviously happy to deal with any specific cover queries from all our clients and contacts. All staff at Stillman Insurance Brokers are equipped to work from home, so you should not see any change in our service, although we are currently advising against face-to-face meetings. Please use your usual contact’s mobile number in the first instance.
